Chinese car manufacturers are making a significant impact on the UK market, moving from near obscurity to widespread presence with models that closely resemble established European brands. Companies such as BYD, Chery, and MG are capturing consumer attention by offering vehicles that rival the aesthetics, features, safety, and efficiency of brands like Range Rover, Volkswagen, and Mercedes, but at a fraction of the cost.
The Jaecoo 7, a sub-brand of Chery, has gained particular notoriety for its resemblance to the Range Rover Velar, earning it the nickname 'Temu Range Rover.' This SUV, priced around £30,000, was the best-selling new car in the UK in March, with 10,064 units sold. Data from Carwow indicates a growing acceptance, with 49% of drivers now considering a Chinese car, up from 35% a year ago.
Jaecoo 7 Sales Success
The Jaecoo 7's sales performance in March saw it outsell popular models including the Ford Puma, Nissan Qashqai, and Kia Sportage. In total, Jaecoo, a new entrant to the market, registered 12,034 vehicles in March. The Jaecoo 7 has maintained a consistent presence in the top ten best-selling models since September 2025, with over 53,000 units registered in the UK since its launch in February 2025. The plug-in hybrid SHS-P variant, offering a combined range of 745 miles, has been the most popular choice, accounting for 75% of customer purchases. Jaecoo has also recently enhanced its warranty offering for the 7 SUV, addressing earlier concerns about the coverage of major components under its advertised seven-year, 100,000-mile policy.

While it surpasses the Porsche in many performance and charging metrics, it lacks the established prestige of the German brand.
