Barclays has introduced a promotional offer providing up to £750 in cashback for customers who transfer an Individual Savings Account (ISA) and take out a new life insurance policy. The offer, valid from September 8 to November 25, requires participants to hold either a regular or Premier current account with Barclays.

To qualify for the cashback, customers must transfer a minimum of £10,000 into a Barclays ISA. The reward amount varies based on the total transferred value and the type of Barclays current account held. For regular current account holders, the cashback ranges from £50 for transfers of £10,000 to £24,999, up to £200 for transfers of £100,000 or more. Premier account holders can receive a minimum of £50 for ISA transfers of £10,000 to £24,999, with the maximum reward of £600 offered for transfers of £100,000 or greater.

The life insurance component of the offer provides additional cashback. Regular current account holders can receive £100 cashback if they take out a policy with a monthly premium of at least £10. Premier account holders can receive £150 cashback for a policy with a monthly premium of at least £12.50; those with a premium between £10 and £12.50 will receive £100.

Several conditions apply to this offer. Participants must have an existing Barclays current account (regular or Premier). The highest cashback amounts are reserved for Premier customers, who must meet specific income or balance requirements. Only transfers to Barclays' fixed-rate single access or Premier triple-access ISAs are eligible. Barclays does not permit transfers from its own ISAs or from specific types of ISAs like lifetime, help to buy, or innovative finance ISAs held elsewhere. The life insurance offer applies to Barclays' simple life insurance or life insurance for mortgage protection, with the policy needing to be purchased within six months of application.

Barclays is currently offering 4.3% on its one-year fixed ISA. This rate is competitive but slightly lower than the best available elsewhere. For instance, Tandem Bank offers 4.76% on a similar one-year fixed ISA. For a £10,000 transfer, the difference in interest earned over a year between Barclays and Tandem Bank is approximately £46. When factoring in the minimum £50 cashback for a £10,000 transfer, the net financial benefit of choosing Barclays over a higher-rate provider could be minimal, especially after considering the conditions for eligibility.

Financial experts advise that customers should not make decisions based solely on cashback offers. It is crucial to compare interest rates, fees, and policy terms to ensure that the chosen product is the most suitable option. For existing Barclays customers who were already considering a transfer or life insurance policy, the cashback may serve as an additional incentive to proceed with Barclays.
