Police Scotland has launched a murder investigation into the death of Stacy Mair, 35, whose body was discovered alongside her ex-husband, 43-year-old Jim Mair, at a secluded cottage near Houston, Renfrewshire. Officers were alerted by family members on Monday morning and found the pair at the isolated property before 8 a.m.
Following a post-mortem examination, Ms. Mair's death is being treated as homicide. Mr. Mair's death is currently unexplained. The couple is understood to have separated earlier this year.
Jim Mair had previously appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on July 6, where he faced accusations of serious assault and was granted bail with the condition that he not approach Ms. Mair. Sources claim a firearm was found at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young stated that the thoughts of the investigation team remain with the families, who are being supported by specialist officers during this difficult time. Chief Inspector Iain Farmer acknowledged the deeply upsetting nature of the incident for the families and the local community, expressing gratitude for the support received during inquiries.
Mr. Mair, a tree surgeon from Glasgow, and Ms. Mair, originally from Falkland, Fife, had reportedly been renting the cottage on Corsliehill Road. Ms. Mair had served as a director in her ex-husband's company before stepping down in January. The couple married in 2019.
A significant police presence, including forensic teams and specialist search units, was observed at the property, which is situated on a secluded, single-track country lane. The road was sealed off as investigations continued, with officers conducting door-to-door inquiries. Neighbors described the area as peaceful and secluded, with many expressing shock and sadness over the tragic events.
