Rescuers have pulled a woman alive from beneath the rubble of a collapsed building in Venezuela, days after a series of powerful earthquakes struck the region. Graciela Mora was rescued in La Guaira, one of the most affected areas, following the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude tremors.
She sustained injuries, including a broken finger, but a friend who was with her at the time of the collapse died. Mora told the Associated Press that she held her friend's hand while awaiting rescue, wanting to ensure she did not die alone.
Officials report that at least 235 people have been killed and 4,300 injured across the country. Many individuals remain trapped or unaccounted for as search and rescue operations continue. The earthquakes, described as among the strongest in over a century, caused widespread destruction and were felt throughout the region.
