Jennifer Keen, 27, has been identified as the woman killed when a Tesla drove through a pedestrian crossing and crashed into a cafe at Westfield Knox in the Melbourne suburb of Wantirna South. Keen was on her lunch break from a nearby call centre when the incident occurred.
Bystanders and paramedics attempted to revive Keen at the scene, but she was pronounced dead. Friends and colleagues remembered her as a "bubbly" and "kind soul" who enjoyed anime. One colleague, Olivia, described Keen as "just the sweetest person" and someone who "really was just a kind soul."
Two other individuals sustained injuries but did not require hospitalization. The driver of the Tesla, a 55-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is assisting police with their investigation.
Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are leading the inquiry. While police believe the crash was accidental, they are investigating the circumstances that led to the vehicle failing to yield at the pedestrian crossing and veering into the cafe. Witnesses at the scene have been interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
