A woman identified as Laura Docherty has been sentenced to an order for lifelong restriction for the attempted murder of a toddler. The crime involved administering adult medication to the child, an act described by the judge as 'wicked'.
During sentencing, the judge stated that Docherty came "within a hair's breadth" of killing the child on one occasion. A paramedic reportedly used significant skill to revive the toddler after Docherty filmed the incident. The judge further noted Docherty's lack of remorse, responsibility, and insight, stating she blamed others for her situation.
Docherty denies guilt and has not accepted responsibility for her actions. A report prepared on Docherty indicated she has an emotionally unstable personality disorder.
Her defense counsel suggested a fixed jail term followed by community supervision. However, the judge indicated that Docherty would likely spend "a significant period of years in custody" and that her release would be determined by the Scottish parole board. The judge emphasized that the crime was committed for "attention and drama" and that Docherty must address her behavior for any future prospects.
