Police in Águas Lindas de Goiás, Brazil, rescued a 24-year-old nursing technician who had allegedly been kidnapped, raped, and held captive for five days by her ex-partner. The woman, Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho, was found bound to a bed with ropes, chains, and a gas mask over her face.
According to reports, Carvalho vanished on August 17 after meeting with her former partner, Ailton Rodrigues de Souza, to discuss their two children. Instead of discussing their children, de Souza allegedly attacked her, took her to a hideout, drugged and raped her, and restrained her.
Military Police responded to the residence on Friday, August 21, after hearing a woman screaming. Video footage obtained by Jam Press shows officers breaking down a bedroom door. Inside, they found Carvalho visibly distressed, restrained, and having difficulty breathing. Evidence in the home suggested de Souza intended to keep her captive for an extended period.
De Souza was arrested and charged with kidnapping, rape, and false imprisonment. Carvalho was hospitalized for treatment but has since been discharged. She has spoken out about the ordeal to raise awareness about domestic violence, stating that she endured the relationship for years due to emotional dependence and marrying at a young age.
