Woman Faces Six Years in Prison for Allegedly Cutting Skyscraper Worker's Ropes in Spain
Prosecutors seek jail time for a Benidorm resident accused of endangering a worker by severing safety lines from her balcony.
A woman in Benidorm, Spain, is facing a potential six-year prison sentence after being accused of attempting to kill a construction worker by cutting the safety ropes that secured him to the side of a skyscraper. The incident occurred on January 20, 2021, when the worker was performing facade renovation approximately 150 feet above the ground.
According to public prosecutors, the accused allegedly emerged onto the enclosed balcony of her apartment, located between the 12th and 13th floors of the building, and used a sharp object to cut one of the worker's safety ropes. As she was attempting to cut a second rope, the worker's screams alerted her, and she stopped her actions. The worker was left clinging to a ledge to prevent himself from falling.
The building where the incident took place has not been identified, and the motive behind the alleged act remains unclear. The woman's nationality has also not been publicly disclosed. The case has taken over three years to reach the trial stage, which was scheduled to begin at Alicante's Provincial Court. It is not yet clear why the proceedings have been delayed.
