A 67-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon in Felanitx, Majorca, after falling into a flooded street and becoming trapped under a car amid flash flooding. Local media reported that the force of the rushing water prevented the woman from freeing herself from beneath the vehicle, where the water depth reached approximately two hand spans.

Bystanders discovered the woman without a pulse and alerted emergency services. Local police and the Civil Guard responded to the scene. A police investigation and a forensic examination are currently underway.

The president of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, expressed condolences to the victim's family and loved ones. "Saddened by the death of a woman in Felanitx during the episode of rain and storms that has affected our islands today," Prohens wrote on social media platform X. "My condolences and support to her family and loved ones in these painful moments."

Francina Armengol, the first female president of the region, also shared her sympathies. "The worst news reaches us today from Felanitx, in the midst of this episode of rain and storms," she stated. "All my affection to the victim's family and friends during these very painful moments."

The incident occurred after a red alert was issued for Majorca due to hours of rapid but intense storms and flooding. The severe weather caused fallen trees and necessitated road closures. The road connecting the capital Palma and Valldemosa was temporarily shut down to allow firefighters to clear a large tree that had fallen onto the roadway. Majorca Airport briefly suspended operations for safety reasons, leading to flight delays.

Last month, a mother and daughter died in separate storm-related incidents in Roda de Berà, a town on Spain's east coast. They were taken to a medical center after a wall collapsed on them in the town marina during heavy rainfall, and later died from their injuries.
