Police have launched an investigation after the bodies of a woman and a young child were found on a footpath outside a 30-storey apartment building in Melbourne, Australia.
Emergency services responded to Prospect Street in Box Hill, a suburb in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, around 6:20 p.m. on Thursday following reports of an unresponsive woman. Upon arrival, officers discovered the woman's body on the footpath and a child of primary school age nearby. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
The area was cordoned off by police on Friday as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Victoria Police stated that, at this early stage, they are not seeking any other individuals in connection with the incident. It remains unclear if the woman and child resided in the apartment complex.
