Woman Accused of Cutting Skyscraper Worker's Safety Ropes Faces Prison in Spain
Prosecutors are seeking a six-year sentence for a woman accused of attempting to cause a fatal fall by severing a worker's safety lines from her apartment balcony.
A woman in Benidorm, Spain, is facing a potential six-year prison sentence after being accused of cutting the safety ropes of a construction worker refurbishing her skyscraper building. The incident, which occurred on January 20, 2021, left the worker dangling precariously from a ledge approximately 150 feet above the ground.
According to public prosecutors, the woman allegedly approached the enclosed balcony of her apartment and used a sharp object to cut one of the ropes securing the worker, who was between the 12th and 13th floors. She then reportedly attempted to cut the second rope but stopped when the worker cried out. The worker was forced to cling to a ledge to prevent himself from falling.
The reason for the alleged act remains undisclosed, and the identity of the woman has not been released ahead of her trial at Alicante's Provincial Court. The delay in the case reaching trial has not been explained. The specific building involved in the incident has also not been identified.
