A Wizz Air flight traveling from London Luton Airport to Sofia was forced to make an emergency landing in Budapest after a bomb threat was reported mid-air. The aircraft was escorted by a Hungarian fighter jet to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport.
A spokesperson for Wizz Air confirmed that authorities carried out security checks on the aircraft and passengers upon landing. The airline later stated that the inspection was completed, nothing was found, and the plane was expected to depart shortly. The Hungarian Defence Ministry confirmed that a Gripen fighter jet was dispatched to escort the passenger plane after it requested permission to land.
Wizz Air flight 4302 departed Luton at approximately 08:33 GMT, with a scheduled arrival in Sofia, Bulgaria, at 13:25 local time. However, the flight diverted and landed in Budapest at 12:09 local time. After landing, the aircraft taxied to a designated stand where security checks were conducted.
Wizz Air stated that it is cooperating fully with the authorities and that the safety of its passengers and crew remains its highest priority. The incident led to a significant diversion from the original flight path and schedule.
