Seventeen people, including the driver, were injured on Wednesday night when a vehicle drove through a crowd in Cabo San Lucas, a popular tourist resort, during a celebration following Mexico's World Cup match victory. The incident occurred as crowds gathered to celebrate Mexico’s 3-0 win over the Czech Republic in their final group stage game.

According to a statement from Los Cabos’ city hall, the vehicle was surrounded by a group of people when it accelerated into the crowd for reasons yet to be determined by authorities. All 17 injured individuals received medical treatment, and the driver was arrested at the scene. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the incident.

An unverified video circulating on social media appears to show a car ramming into the crowd, though Reuters could not confirm its authenticity. Jose Manuel Larumbe, the acting mayor of Los Cabos, expressed solidarity with those affected and their families and pledged to keep the public informed about the ongoing investigation.

Cabo San Lucas, located on Mexico's Baja California peninsula, is a prominent luxury tourist destination and one of the two main cities within the Municipality of Los Cabos, which also encompasses San Jose del Cabo and the connecting resort corridor.
