A former teacher in Britain has been permanently banned from the classroom for providing a student with a pen containing a hidden camera and instructing her to undress before doing her homework. Matthew Udall, 33, of Warwickshire, admitted to giving the young girl the disguised pen in July 2022.

The Teaching Regulation Agency stated in a report released Friday that Udall's actions were sexually motivated and had the potential to cause significant harm to the pupil. Udall pleaded guilty in 2024 to charges including inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and attempting to observe a person performing a private act. He was sentenced to 31 months in prison.

According to the report, the girl noticed the camera and informed a friend and another teacher. While there was no indication the pupil fell for the ploy, the panel concluded that Udall's intentions were evident from his conviction. The panel also noted a lack of evidence demonstrating insight or remorse from Udall, who reportedly attempted to conceal his actions by telling the student not to inform her parents about the pen.

Udall has 28 days to appeal the ban decision in court.
