UK Pensioner Charged With Murder in Bradley Stoke
A 73-year-old man has been charged with murder after a 71-year-old woman was discovered dead at a home in Bradley Stoke.
A pensioner has been charged with murder following the discovery of a 71-year-old woman's body at a home in Bradley Stoke, England.
Emergency services were alerted to an address on Sherbourne Avenue around 2 p.m. on Friday, where they found the woman with serious injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gerald Bishop, 73, who resides on Sherbourne Avenue, was arrested at the property. He has since been charged with murder and remanded in custody. Bishop is scheduled to appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Superintendent Karen Corrigan of Avon and Somerset Police stated that the investigation is in its initial stages. "We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the woman's grieving family at what will be a devastating time for them, and specially trained officers will provide them with ongoing support," Corrigan said.
Corrigan added that while a man remains in police custody, authorities are working to understand the circumstances of the incident. "This will come as a great shock to the community, but we do not consider there to be any ongoing risk to the public and if anybody has any concerns, they are welcome to approach officers in the area," she noted.
Police will maintain an increased presence in the area over the coming days to conduct inquiries and provide reassurance to residents. The statement also confirmed that officers found the woman with fatal injuries.
