The United Kingdom is bracing for an intensified heatwave as temperatures are forecast to rise again midweek, potentially reaching 35 degrees Celsius in some areas by Thursday. This marks the second week of prolonged high temperatures for the nation.
By midweek, an area of low pressure over France is expected to bring lighter easterly winds, contributing to a return of more humid conditions. Temperatures will increase across most regions, with the peak anticipated on Thursday. Western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland could see readings around 26C or 27C. Larger portions of England and Wales are likely to experience highs near 30C, and some weather models suggest isolated peaks of 34C or 35C.
This year has already seen a record-breaking nine days where temperatures have reached 34C or higher, surpassing the previous record of 1976 and 2020, which each had seven such days. Night-time temperatures are also set to rise, with the possibility of several 'tropical nights,' where temperatures remain above 20C throughout the night.
