Joshua Foster, 37, of Essex, England, was fined 3,000 euros (approximately £2,500) by Paphos District Court on Friday after admitting to causing death by a reckless, rash, or dangerous act. The incident occurred on July 12, the first day of the family's holiday.

Foster had placed his son on a fourth-floor windowsill at the King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas to show him the view of a waterpark. He told the court that he believed the window was closed and that he subsequently lost control of the child. The two-year-old boy fell nearly 40 feet to his death.

Foster appeared emotional as the sentence was delivered, embracing his lawyer and parents after the ruling. The family was on holiday in Cyprus at the time of the tragedy.
