Sykes Holiday Cottages has unveiled its list of the United Kingdom and Ireland's best holiday accommodations for 2026, recognizing a wide array of properties in its annual Gem Awards. The awards, which draw from Sykes' portfolio of over 25,000 properties, celebrate memorable and highly-rated holiday lets based on guest feedback, property quality, occupancy, and amenities.
James Shaw, chief commercial officer of Forge Holiday Group, noted that the awards highlight the diversity of holiday lets and the dedication of owners. "From a lighthouse on the Lincolnshire coast to a cottage in the grounds of a historic Scottish castle, this year's winners show just how distinctive a UK or Ireland break can be," Shaw said.
Among the notable winners is The Sty, named best farm stay. This contemporary pod in Derbyshire accommodates two guests and features a private courtyard and hot tub, with prices starting from £506 for seven nights.
For beach lovers, Bucket and Spades in Pevensey Bay, East Sussex, secured the award for best for beaches. This property offers direct beach access and can sleep six, with seven-night stays beginning at £1,914.
The award for best for couples went to Hona, a converted mission hall in Uig on the Isle of Lewis, known for its romantic atmosphere and scenic views, with prices starting at £827 for a week.
Families with young children can consider The Olde Cow House in Shropshire, recognized as the best for young families. This restored 16th-century barn conversion sleeps 11 and offers a range of activities for children, including interacting with farm animals and exploring nearby woodlands. Seven-night stays start from £1,627.
For those seeking a unique outdoor experience, Evendine Hut @ Evendine Cottage in Worcestershire was awarded best for glamping. This shepherd's hut features a wood-burning stove, smart TV, and a distinctive freestanding outdoor bath, sleeping two with prices from £452 for seven nights.
Oakdene Country House in the Yorkshire Dales earned the title of best for large groups, accommodating up to 23 people. Priced at £4,898 for seven nights, it boasts glamorous interiors and 11 bedrooms.
Estuary View in Newquay, Cornwall, was named the best pet-friendly property. This charming home sleeps five and offers stylish décor and ample outdoor space, with seven nights starting from £742.
2 Channel View in Salcombe, Devon, received the award for best for views. This three-story townhouse features a terrace overlooking the estuary and can accommodate six guests, with prices from £1,244 for a week.
The Sir Peter Scott Lighthouse in Lincolnshire, a Grade II-listed property, was recognized as the best quirky property. It sleeps eight across four bedrooms, combining maritime heritage with modern amenities, and is available from £1,242 for seven nights.
For a historical stay, the Clocktower at Culzean Castle in South Ayrshire was named best historic property. This three-bedroom cottage offers views of the castle and access to the surrounding National Trust for Scotland estate, with seven-night stays starting from £767.
The full list of winners includes properties recognized for sustainability, walking, luxury, and various regional accolades across England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.
