Two sailors remain missing after a French fishing trawler, the Maranello, sank southwest of the British port of Plymouth on Sunday, according to French authorities.
The vessel had contacted another trawler, the Stradale, on Saturday to report a problem with its fishing gear. The Stradale was able to recover three of the five crew members before the Maranello went down.
The two vessels were located approximately 26 nautical miles southwest of Plymouth, an area under British jurisdiction. The Falmouth Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre assumed charge of the rescue operation in coordination with French agencies.
One of the rescued sailors was injured and evacuated by helicopter to Truro Hospital. The other two were taken to Plymouth for medical attention. The search for the two missing sailors is ongoing, with a French Navy aircraft, two British lifeboats, and two British aircraft deployed.
The maritime prefecture confirmed that the search, coordinated by MRCC Falmouth, continues.
