Two individuals arrested in connection with the death of a one-year-old girl in Atherstone, Warwickshire, have been released on police bail with strict conditions. Emergency services were called to a residence on Long Street on Friday at approximately 11:50 BST following reports of a child in cardiac arrest.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the arrival of paramedics. A 19-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were initially arrested on suspicion of child neglect. Their arrests were later broadened to include suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child, according to Warwickshire Police.
Detective Chief Inspector Martyn Kendall stated that the "tragic death has understandably caused a great deal of shock and concern in the local community." Police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination, which is expected to provide further clarity on the circumstances surrounding the infant's death. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact the force.
