Two Killed, Two Injured in British Columbia Mall Crash
Police believe a medical emergency may have caused the vehicle to crash into the building.
Two people died and two others were injured Wednesday in a crash at a mall in Delta, British Columbia. Police stated that the incident may have been caused by a medical emergency.
The injured individuals received treatment at the scene and were subsequently transported to a hospital. The crash was not related to nearby events commemorating the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, according to police.
Video footage from the scene showed a truck positioned against the exterior of the Tsawwassen Mills shopping center. Emergency services, including ambulances and a helicopter, were present in the parking lot, and police tape had been erected.
Tsawwassen First Nation issued a statement expressing deep sadness over the incident. The nation indicated that no further details would be released out of respect for the families involved and the ongoing response efforts.
Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed annually on September 30, serves to honor Indigenous children who died while attending government-funded, church-run residential schools, as well as survivors, their families, and communities. This federal holiday was established in 2021.
