Two Mexican fishermen have been rescued after spending five days adrift in the Pacific Ocean inside a cooler. Daniel Guerrero Martínez, 53, and José Luis Portelas Villegas, 32, were found on Wednesday, approximately 150 miles off the coast of Chiapas.

The pair departed from the fishing town of Paredón, Chiapas, last Thursday on their vessel, the Camaronera. They lost contact the following day when the boat sank, prompting a search effort that involved boats, an aircraft, and the Mexican Navy.

Mexico's Secretariat of the Navy stated that the deployment of surface and air units under the Trinomio concept facilitated the search and rescue operation. Martínez and Villegas were found floating in the Pacific Ocean within their cooler.

Following their rescue, the fishermen were airlifted to a hospital to receive treatment for severe dehydration. An investigation into the cause of the boat's sinking has been launched, with initial reports suggesting that wind and adverse weather conditions may have been contributing factors. The possibility of engine trouble has not been ruled out.
