Two earthquakes struck China's remote Qinghai province within 18 minutes of each other on Tuesday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The first earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.7 at 11:16 a.m. local time, followed by a 5.8 magnitude tremor at 11:34 a.m. Both earthquakes occurred at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles).

Qinghai province, located in China's northwest, is sparsely populated and is known to experience seismic activity. There were no immediate reports of casualties following the two tremors.

Footage shared by state broadcaster CCTV showed dust rising from cliffs as the ground shook. The earthquakes were also felt in Lanzhou, a major city in the neighboring Gansu province, where social media videos depicted lamps swaying inside residences.
