Two Britons Among Three Killed in Swiss Alps Plane Crash

A light aircraft crashed high in the Swiss Alps on Tuesday, killing three people, including two Britons. The incident occurred near the town of Leukerbad in the southern canton of Valais.

The Cirrus SR22T aircraft departed from Sion airport in the Rhône Valley and, for reasons yet to be determined, collided with a mountain slope approximately 10 minutes after takeoff. Witnesses reported observing fire and smoke at the crash site.

Emergency services, including the Valais Rescue Organisation, police, and firefighters, were dispatched to the scene. Three helicopters were also deployed to aid in the response. The Swiss Transportation Safety Board has initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash, while the Valais Police and the Office of the Attorney General have launched a separate inquiry.

The identities of the victims are currently undergoing formal verification. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed it is providing support to the families of the two British citizens who died. Officials stated they are in contact with local authorities and extended condolences to the families during this difficult period.
