A Trump aide said President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were "thrilled" that Catherine, Princess of Wales, will play a prominent role during the couple's two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, the Daily Mail reported Saturday.
According to the report, the princess will greet the Trumps alongside her husband, Prince William, in the grounds of Windsor Castle and will formally introduce them to the King and Queen. The royal participation is scheduled to include a horse-drawn carriage procession through Windsor Great Park escorted by the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, a private lunch and a visit to view pieces from the Royal Collection.
The Daily Mail report said the Trumps will also make a private visit to the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II at St George's Chapel during their stay. A Trump source told the paper that the couple had hoped the princess would be involved but that arrangements were not confirmed until the week of the visit because of her health situation.
The newspaper said the state visit itinerary will include a meeting between President Trump and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer at Chequers, where the president will be welcomed by bagpipers. The report said the visit will feature historic material from the Sir Winston Churchill archives — provided by the National Trust at Chartwell House — and a reception hosted by the British and US leaders for investors including firms such as GSK, Microsoft and Rolls-Royce. The two nations are expected to witness the signing of a technology partnership deal, the report added.
Menu details published by the Daily Mail said the presidential lunch would feature Dover sole with peas and potatoes. The report also said the princess, who is recovering from cancer, will attend a state banquet on Wednesday evening and will join Melania Trump the following morning in Frogmore Gardens, where they will be shown the Scouts' Squirrels programme.
Organisers have positioned the princess’s visible role in the programme as a prominent element of the royal welcome for the visiting head of state and his spouse. The Daily Mail report quoted a Trump source describing the princess's inclusion in "so many events" as an honour to the couple.
Representatives for the royal household and for the White House did not immediately provide comment to the Daily Mail, which filed the original account. The report did not indicate whether any further adjustments to the itinerary remained possible as the visit approached.
The state visit will mark one of the highest-profile diplomatic engagements between the United States and the United Kingdom this year, combining ceremonial events with bilateral meetings and business-focused receptions that organisers say are designed to bolster trade and investment ties between the two countries.
