Tourist Rescued From Dangerous Waves After Being Trapped by Beach Barrier

A 61-year-old tourist was rescued on October 2, 2026, after becoming trapped by dangerous ocean swells against a temporary fence at Cabbage Beach in Nassau, The Bahamas. The incident, which lasted approximately three minutes, saw a swift response from beach vendors, local supporters, a member of parliament, and resort lifeguards who worked together to free the woman.

The fence had been installed as part of an erosion control and restoration project. However, it drew public criticism due to concerns about restricted access and safety. Following the outcry, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources announced on September 28 that it had demanded the developer remove the fencing for failing to adequately inform the public about its presence and purpose.
