A 2-year-old girl died Tuesday night after falling from a fifth-floor apartment window in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.
The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on East 138th Street near St. Ann's Avenue. The child landed in an alleyway and was transported to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police and sources indicated the fall appeared to be a tragic accident.
Authorities stated the toddler may have fallen after dislodging a divider between the window and an air conditioner. The child's mother was reportedly in another room at the time of the fall and subsequently called 911. No criminality is suspected in the incident, according to police.
