Three Killed in Swiss Alps Plane Crash
A small single-engine aircraft crashed on a mountainside in southwest Switzerland on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of all three occupants.
Three individuals died on Wednesday when a small single-engine airplane crashed in the Swiss Alps, authorities confirmed.
The aircraft went down on the northern slope in the Fluhalp area, near the mountain resort town of Leukerbad, in the Valais canton, according to the cantonal police.
The incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. local time. The police stated that all three passengers on board perished and that efforts were underway to identify the victims.
According to flight details, the plane departed from Lugano in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino. It made a stop in Sion, in the Valais canton, before continuing its journey toward the Buochs aerodrome in the central canton of Nidwalden.
Emergency services were alerted by residents who reported seeing smoke emanating from the aircraft.
The Swiss federal authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
