A 10-year-old child and two 30-year-old women died after a small boat attempting to cross the English Channel encountered difficulties off the northern coast of France. French authorities stated they responded to a distress call from the vessel, which had departed from Blériot Plage beach in Calais on Monday morning.
According to the French Maritime Prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea, three passengers received medical treatment on board but were later pronounced dead by an emergency medical team that arrived by helicopter. The boat was carrying a total of 105 people.
Passengers were disembarked at the port of Calais later on Monday morning by a rescue boat, AFP news agency reported.
