An 18-year-old male has been charged after a 17-year-old boy was allegedly attacked by a group and stabbed in the head in Sydney's inner west. Emergency services responded to King Street in Newtown shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Saturday following reports of an assault.

Officers arrived to find that a teenager had been assaulted by a group who then fled the scene. The 17-year-old victim was treated by paramedics for multiple stab wounds to the head and back before being transported to a hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation was launched. By Saturday afternoon, police determined that the 17-year-old victim and the 18-year-old charged were known to each other. Investigators allege the pair were involved in an altercation with three unidentified males, who then allegedly stabbed the younger boy.

Two knives were recovered by police. The 18-year-old was arrested at the location and taken to Newtown Police Station, where he was subsequently charged with affray. He has been granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Newtown Local Court on Tuesday, August 18.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
