A teenager is in critical condition with head and spinal injuries following a dirt buggy crash on a private property southwest of Sydney. Emergency services were called to the Oakdale property on Sunday morning.
A second teenage boy sustained serious head and shoulder injuries and was transported to Liverpool hospital in a stable condition.
Paramedics treated the two boys at the scene before the critically injured teenager was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by police.
While operating unregistered dirt buggies on public roads, beaches, or parks is illegal in New South Wales, it is permitted on private land. On private property, there is no requirement for registration or a driver's license, and no age limit for operation. However, SafeWork NSW recommends that individuals aged 16 and above should operate full-sized buggies.
