A 17-year-old murder suspect told a court that the victim, Amen Teklay, threatened him with a frying pan before he stabbed Teklay with a sword. The incident occurred on Glasgow's Clarendon Street on March 5, 2025, resulting in Teklay's death.

The accused testified that he saw Teklay with the frying pan behind him and feared he was about to be attacked. He stated that Teklay then turned back toward him, at which point the stabbing occurred. Teklay fled the scene bleeding heavily, according to the defendant.

The teenager described himself as "panicking and just scared" following the incident. He admitted to removing blood-stained jogging bottoms and discarding them over a wall. He also told the court he later visited Kelvingrove Park, where he kicked the alleged murder weapon near a river. The court had previously been informed that the accused conducted an internet search for Amen Teklay and the incident on the day after the events.

"I knew he was badly injured. I had no idea that he died," the accused told the court, indicating his lack of awareness of Teklay's death at the time.

Iain McSporran KC, the defense counsel, asked the defendant if he had told Teklay to leave his client alone because he had "nothing to do with this." The accused confirmed that he had.

The trial is continuing at the High Court in Glasgow before Judge Lord Colbeck.
