A Sydney mother died earlier this month after suffering severe burns in a barbecue accident while preparing to cook for her children. Charlotte Rose-Ann Hill, 38, died hours after surgery to treat the injuries she sustained when she caught fire. The incident occurred in her backyard as she was setting up the barbecue to celebrate the start of school holidays.
Her screams alerted her 11-year-old son, Noah, and 7-year-old daughter, Billie-Rose. According to Ms. Hill's cousin, Bianca Hill, Noah used his jacket to try and extinguish the flames on his mother. The children were not physically injured during the incident. Their father provided first aid until paramedics arrived and transported Ms. Hill to a hospital, accompanied by her cousin.
Ms. Hill survived the initial surgery but died later due to an unexpected medical complication during her recovery. Bianca Hill described her cousin as a kind and generous person who deeply desired a happy childhood for her children, having witnessed her own mother's death at a young age. Ms. Hill had reportedly overcome numerous challenges and was looking forward to a brighter future.
Bianca Hill has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral costs, financial pressures, schooling expenses, and the children's emotional well-being. "She broke hearts with her beautiful smile. Anywhere she went, people were just in awe of how absolutely stunning this girl is," Bianca Hill said, also noting Ms. Hill's kindness and generosity.
