Police have launched an investigation into the discovery of suspected human remains near the remote opal-mining town of Andamooka in South Australia. The discovery was made by a member of the public in a mine shaft.

Andamooka, located approximately 600 kilometers north of Adelaide, is a small community with a population of about 250 residents. The town previously gained media attention in December of last year when Trisha Graf, a 41-year-old mother of six, was last seen there.

It is currently unknown if the discovered remains belong to Ms. Graf. She was last captured on CCTV footage at the Roxby Downs Tavern at 12:19 a.m. on December 12. A man reportedly paid for her drink before she left the establishment a short time later with her friend Kymberley Conniff. Both Ms. Graf and Ms. Conniff resided in Andamooka.

Police stated that Ms. Graf's white 2012 Ford Territory collided with a kangaroo outside of Andamooka on the drive back. Despite the accident, Ms. Graf and Ms. Conniff proceeded into town and visited a residence in the northwestern part of Andamooka. Shortly before 2 a.m., Ms. Graf departed the address for her approximately five-minute journey home and was last seen driving on Dunstan Drive.

Ms. Graf's partner, Tony Gregory, reported her missing the following morning. He later found her Ford Territory, damaged from the kangaroo collision and inoperable, perched on a dirt mound near the Blue Dam, east of the town. A pack of VB beer was in the back seat, with one bottle missing.

Initial searches by officers and the State Emergency Service included ground and aerial sweeps, divers in a nearby dam, and door-to-door inquiries by detectives. Ms. Graf's disappearance has been classified as a major crime by police. She was reportedly wearing black pants and a black top, with her hair in a plait, and had facial piercings and tattoos on her right arm and forearm.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Ms. Graf's whereabouts or her movements before her disappearance to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
