A high school student in Zagreb, Croatia, attacked and wounded another student and a school janitor on Friday, authorities reported. The assailant was taken into custody.
According to Croatia's Ministry of Education, the attacker used a "sharp object" in the incident. The student who was stabbed underwent surgery for multiple injuries and is reported to be out of danger, while the school employee sustained facial injuries.
Reports from the Index news portal suggest the attack may have stemmed from a dispute between students that occurred on Thursday. Law enforcement cordoned off the school building as an investigation took place.
This incident follows a fatal attack in December 2024, when a former student entered a Zagreb school and killed a 7-year-old girl, also wounding three children and their teacher. That attacker was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison. Following that event, schools in Zagreb and other areas implemented enhanced security measures, including hiring guards to control unauthorized access.
