A student opened fire at a high school in Thailand on Friday, killing at least six people and injuring others, police reported. The attack occurred at the Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province, located northwest of Bangkok.

Witnesses described students hiding in classrooms as gunshots were heard from another building. Police officers eventually arrived and guided students to safety.

Authorities have provided varying figures regarding the casualties. Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan told The Associated Press that the attacker was hospitalized in serious condition, and 15 other individuals were injured, with two in critical condition. Piwpan reported three teachers and three students were killed. However, Thailand Health Minister Pattana Promphat indicated that 22 individuals sustained injuries, nine of whom were in critical condition. Promphat noted that some injuries were due to falls, and it was unclear how many were directly from gunshots.

Deputy Interior Minister Polapee Suwunchwee stated to reporters that five teachers died and that the perpetrator killed his two grandparents at home before going to the school. Suwunchwee reported the attacker died at a hospital. Person with cordon tape after a school shooting in Thailand.
