Storm Austen Triggers Amber Alert for UK Coastal Areas
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for high winds as Storm Austen is expected to bring gusts up to 80mph to parts of the UK.
An amber weather warning has been issued for Cornwall and parts of west Devon as Storm Austen is forecast to bring strong winds to the United Kingdom. The warning is in effect from 3:00 AM to 10:00 AM BST on Friday.
Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 80mph (130 km/h) along exposed coastlines, with speeds of 60-70mph anticipated in other areas. The Met Office has cautioned that these conditions could lead to flying debris, posing a risk to life and causing injuries. Potential impacts also include power outages and damage to buildings.
A broader yellow weather warning has been placed over large areas of southern England and south Wales, indicating the possibility of travel disruptions. The deep area of low pressure associated with Storm Austen is expected to move close to the southern coast of the UK early on Friday, with southwestern England anticipated to experience the most severe weather.
