Lloret de Mar, located on Spain's Costa Brava, is being highlighted as a significantly more affordable alternative to the famed party island of Ibiza. Research by holiday site Sundeals suggests that travelers can experience similar attractions, including beach clubs and nightlife, for up to 40 percent less.

Package holidays to Lloret de Mar start at approximately £119 per person, positioning it as a value-driven destination for those seeking a Mediterranean getaway. The resort offers a range of amenities, from lively beach clubs and vibrant nightlife to boutique hotels and scenic beaches. Unlike Ibiza, Lloret de Mar also provides a quieter atmosphere with opportunities for relaxation away from crowds.

Beyond the initial holiday cost, savings continue upon arrival. Beach club sunbeds in Lloret de Mar are around €45, a €15 saving compared to Ibiza, where they can exceed €60. A three-course meal for two in Lloret de Mar costs approximately €50, which is €30 less than in Ibiza, with local beer priced at around €3.

Kevin Nelson, managing director at Sundeals, noted that while Ibiza is often the immediate thought for beach clubs and Mediterranean evenings, other destinations offer comparable experiences at better value. He described Lloret de Mar as having evolved beyond a traditional beach resort, offering activities like exploring cliffside gardens, relaxing in hidden coves, and enjoying sunset cocktails.

Recent research from TravelSupermarket supports the idea of an 'island premium,' finding that mainland coastal resorts are generally cheaper than their island counterparts. This study indicated that tourists can pay an average of £134 per person more for an island holiday, equating to an additional £536 for a family of four for a week-long trip. Ibiza averaged £964 per person, while the Costa Blanca was found to be £336 cheaper at £628 per person.
