Spanish Reporter Knocked Down by Wave During Live Broadcast

A Spanish television reporter was reporting live on Thursday about the dangers of rough seas and proximity to sea walls when a large wave knocked him over. The incident occurred in the coastal town of Ondarroa.

Sergio Ovejero, a reporter for the local station ETB2, was standing on a path near a sea wall and warning viewers about the conditions when the wave surged over the wall. The water engulfed Ovejero and a camerawoman, interrupting the live feed and filling the screen with churning water.

Before being hit by the wave, Ovejero stated in Spanish, "All eyes are now on the sea as the predictions tell us it’s gonna get worse as hours go by. [There’s a] warning about the pavement and being near sea walls like this one we are at the moment, since there is a risk—".

Footage of the event shows the anchor back in the studio reacting with a stunned expression as the broadcast feed cut out. After a moment, the anchor stated, "Let’s hope our coworkers Sergio and Raquel are okay, we will update their situation in a second, let’s see on the map what Ovejero was telling us about."

The station later confirmed that both the reporter and the camerawoman were unharmed.
