Spanish Police Uncover 'Torture Chamber' in Costa del Sol Home

Spanish police have dismantled a plastic-lined room suspected of being a torture chamber in a home located in the tourist town of Estepona on the Costa del Sol. The discovery was made on September 5 after a woman alerted emergency services that her partner might be in danger.

Upon entering the property, officers encountered a Moroccan man covered in blood who exclaimed, "They want to kill us!" This led to a call for reinforcements, and subsequent entry into the house revealed a disturbing scene. Sources close to the judicial investigation told Spanish news outlet El Español that the room was lined with plastic sheeting and equipped with tools such as pliers and hammers, suggesting its use for torture.

Inside the home, another man, identified as a Spanish national, was found tied to a chair, also covered in blood. Police seized two AK-47 assault rifles and several handguns from the residence. Images from the scene depict a chair and walls covered in plastic, a measure investigators believe was used to facilitate easy cleanup of evidence.

The Moroccan man who escaped had reportedly gone to the house for a work meeting and had instructed his girlfriend to call the police if she did not hear from him within 20 minutes. After 40 minutes passed without contact, she contacted the authorities.

Both rescued men exhibited visible injuries and were found naked and bleeding. Authorities are investigating the possibility that the men were victims of torture as part of a score-settling incident. Seven Georgian nationals, believed to be connected to the property, have been arrested as the investigation continues to identify other potential suspects.

The Costa del Sol region, encompassing popular tourist destinations like Marbella and Fuengirola, has been identified as a significant hub for organized crime. This incident follows a prior event last year where a man was fatally shot in the upscale resort of Puerto Banus, in front of tourists. The 25-year-old victim was killed at close range in broad daylight while seated at a cafe. CCTV footage showed the gunman, disguised as a tourist, approach and fire upon the victim repeatedly, even as he lay motionless on the ground. The injured man later died from his wounds at the Costa del Sol Hospital.
