A small plane crashed into the CITIC Tower, Beijing's tallest skyscraper, on Friday afternoon, sending debris onto the streets below. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. local time.

Dramatic footage circulating on social media showed shattered windows on the 109-story building, also known as China Zun, and parts of the aircraft on the ground. Local media identified the aircraft as a B-12PP, a Chinese-made single-engine, two-seat light aircraft.

The impact reportedly shattered two windows on the 1,700-foot tower. Thick smoke was seen emanating from the ground floor of the building, which was subsequently evacuated. Police were observed preventing pedestrians from taking photographs, and some videos of the incident were removed from social media platforms.

It remains unclear whether there were any casualties or injuries as a result of the crash. This is a developing story.
