Singapore Airlines Named World's Best Airline for 2026; US Carriers Miss Top 10
Skytrax awards highlight global passenger satisfaction, with US airlines falling significantly behind international competitors.
Singapore Airlines has been awarded the title of World's Best Airline for 2026 by the international air transport ranker Skytrax. The results, announced at the 2026 World Airline Awards in London on September 18, saw US carriers largely absent from the top rankings, with none cracking the top 20.
This marks the sixth time Singapore Airlines has received this prestigious accolade since the awards' inception in 1999. The airline also secured top honors for World's Best Economy Class and World's Best Economy Class Onboard Catering. Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted congratulated Singapore Airlines on their achievement, noting the "level of product and service excellence they are providing to customers."
The rankings are derived from a global passenger satisfaction survey conducted between September 2025 and August 2026, encompassing feedback from travelers of over 100 nationalities. The survey evaluates airlines across various metrics, including cabin comfort, service, and onboard amenities.
Following closely behind Singapore Airlines was Qatar Airways, the defending champion from the previous year, which secured the second position globally. Qatar Airways also received accolades for World's Best Business Class Airline for the 13th time, and its Al Mourjan Business Lounge, The Garden, was named the World's Best Business Class Lounge. Additionally, Qatar Airways claimed the inaugural award for the World's Best Onboard Wi-Fi.
The top three was rounded out by Cathay Pacific Airways, ANA All Nippon Airways, and Turkish Airlines. Other airlines in the top 10 included Emirates, Air France, Hainan Airlines, Japan Airlines, and Korean Air.
In contrast, US airlines struggled to gain traction in the rankings. Delta Air Lines led the domestic carriers at 26th place, with United Airlines following at 45th, an improvement of six spots from the previous year. Air Canada was the only North American airline to break into the top 20, reaching 17th place.
The Skytrax World Airline Awards are often referred to as the "Oscars of Aviation" and are a significant benchmark for airline performance and passenger experience worldwide.
