Authorities are continuing a wide-ranging search for a three-month-old baby after the bodies of a woman and a toddler were recovered following a fall from a cliff on South Australia's east coast. The incident occurred at Port MacDonnell on Monday morning.
Emergency services were alerted around 11:15 a.m. after an empty vehicle was discovered with its engine still running near Cape Northumberland Road. Responding officers found the bodies of a 36-year-old woman and her 13-month-old child.
Two local fishermen assisted in recovering the bodies. The search for the infant is currently being supported by two State Emergency Service units, along with drones, helicopters, and a rescue plane dispatched from Melbourne. Police have also requested public assistance, asking anyone who spots a White Isuzu MUX with South Australian registration S592BJR to report it to Crime Stoppers.
Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Branch and specialist officers from the Forensic Response Section are involved in the investigation.
Port MacDonnell, situated on the southernmost tip of South Australia, is a known destination for fishing tourism.
