Ryanair experienced a day of severe air incidents on July 10, with two separate flights encountering serious trouble. One aircraft was forced to make an emergency diversion due to extreme turbulence, while another flight had a passenger partially ejected from the cabin after a window failure.
Flight FR9887, traveling from Alicante to Liverpool, encountered severe turbulence approximately one hour into its journey. Passengers reported being thrown towards the ceiling, with drinks and cabin crew also affected. The aircraft subsequently diverted to Nantes, France, to address injuries sustained on board. One passenger described the experience as "absolutely terrifying," fearing for their lives as the plane dropped suddenly. Upon landing in Nantes, paramedics attended to passengers, with one individual reportedly taken away on a stretcher and a flight attendant requiring hospital treatment for a knee injury. A Ryanair spokesperson confirmed the turbulence incident, stating that the aircraft landed normally and a small group of passengers received medical attention. A replacement aircraft was arranged to continue the journey to Liverpool.
On the same day, another Ryanair flight, FR1879, traveling from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, experienced a critical failure when a passenger window dislodged mid-flight. A passenger, Ljubiša Karović, was partially sucked out of the opening at approximately 20,000 feet. His wife, Svetlana Grković, managed to cling to his legs, preventing him from being fully ejected. Fellow passengers assisted in pulling him back into the cabin as oxygen masks deployed. The flight made an emergency landing back at its departure airport in Thessaloniki. According to reports, passengers heard a loud bang shortly after takeoff, which preceded the window failure. Ryanair confirmed the incident, stating the aircraft landed normally and one passenger received medical assistance. A replacement aircraft was dispatched to minimize delays for other passengers.
