Lucia Sisic, the reigning Miss Austria, has died at the age of 22. Mission Austria, the organization behind the Miss Austria and Mister Austria pageants, announced her passing on Monday.

Sisic was crowned Miss Austria in 2024 and held the title as no subsequent competition had yet taken place. Mission Austria shared a tribute on its Facebook page, stating, "It is with great shock and deep sorrow that we have learned of the passing of our Miss Austria 2024, Lucia Sisic." The organization noted that her death was unexpected, and no cause has been confirmed.

In its statement, translated from German, Mission Austria conveyed, "We will remember Lucia as a wonderful young woman. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and all those close to her during this difficult time." The message was signed by Mission Austria CEO Kerstin Rigger and her husband Jörg, who added that Sisic "will always remain a part of our Miss Austria family."

Sisic had previously spoken publicly about experiencing a lifelong heart condition. In 2024, she posted on Instagram expressing gratitude to her pediatric medical team for their care. "Thanks to the medical staff and the dedicated doctors - who time and again saved my life through their tremendous efforts - I have overcome many difficult moments and been able to lead a fulfilling life," she wrote at the time. While her condition was known, the specific cause of her death has not been confirmed.
