Former "Married At First Sight" contestant Seb Guilhaus is a free man after the Adelaide District Court dismissed all drug trafficking charges against him. The court determined that the key evidence used against Guilhaus, including almost 1 kilogram of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $90,000, was obtained unlawfully.
Guilhaus, 36, was arrested in 2023 by detectives from the Serious and Organised Crime Branch at his Croydon property. He had pleaded not guilty to trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug.
Last month, the District Court ruled that South Australian police obtained the evidence through an "impermissible covert surveillance operation," according to the Adelaide Advertiser. Judge Rauf Soulio stated that the search was unlawful and the officer involved did not have a reasonable basis to form suspicion. Consequently, the evidence resulting from the search had to be excluded.
Prosecutors have since formally withdrawn all charges against Guilhaus. The court had heard that police began surveilling Guilhaus after his name emerged during a separate investigation.
Outside the court, Guilhaus, who has since pursued a career on OnlyFans, spoke about his personal struggles. "I was in a lot of pain for a very long time. I believed I was defective, and suffered from self-worth issues," he said. He described a deep insecurity and lack of self-worth beneath a public persona. Guilhaus suggested that the attention he received after appearing on "Married At First Sight" in 2020 had a negative impact on him. "After the show, and all external validation, ended, all I looked forward to was a brief moment of peace which illicit substances provided me – at the cost of a totally self-destructive life," he stated.
Guilhaus emphasized that recovery is an ongoing process. "Recovery for me is an ongoing thing, an ongoing weekly intervention, and that's important for people to hear. There's no end to recovery. It's about discipline," he said.
Prior to his reality television appearance, Guilhaus worked as a personal trainer. He was partnered with Lizzie Sobinoff on season seven of "Married At First Sight" in 2020, but the couple split a year later. He also played Australian rules football in the South Australian National Football League and was recognized as one of Adelaide's 'most eligible singles' in 2021.
