A 21-year-old pregnant woman was found stabbed to death with her baby forcibly removed from her womb in an incident that has deeply disturbed the community of Cali, Colombia. María Camila Potosí, who was eight months pregnant, was last seen on July 16 and her body was discovered four days later.
Cali Metropolitan Police found Potosí's body covered in blankets and bearing multiple stab wounds approximately four miles from her home. Police General Herbert Benavídez indicated that more than four individuals may have been involved in the crime. The city has announced a reward of $62,000 for information that leads to the apprehension of those responsible and the location of the infant, identified as Alahia.
According to reports, Potosí was at her boyfriend's family home when she received a call from a woman, later identified as the driver of a motorcycle. Potosí reportedly told the family she was going to pick up gifts for her baby, having recently met the woman at a center for expectant mothers. Her sister, Juliana Meneses, stated that Potosí had an obstetrician appointment the same day, and her boyfriend became concerned when she did not return.
A man, Carlos Rincón, posted a video identifying himself as the ex-boyfriend of the alleged female suspect. He stated that the woman did not return home the day Potosí disappeared and revealed that she had told him in January that she was pregnant. Rincón denied any involvement, stating that he and his family were also victims and trusted the woman.
