A powerful earthquake struck Japan’s Kyushu island on Tuesday, prompting the evacuation of more than 150,000 residents and causing widespread disruptions. The seismic event led to power outages affecting over 40,000 households, damaged roads, and resulted in the collapse of a castle wall and a footbridge.
In the Kumamoto prefecture, a chimney collapsed at a paper factory, leaving several people missing. Police are currently responding to the situation, according to Japan's public broadcaster NHK.
Video footage from the region captured scenes across the island where the strong earthquake made landfall on July 28.
