A 19-year-old student was apprehended by authorities after an incident involving a sharp object at a vocational school north of Warsaw.
Police in Poland arrested a 19-year-old student on Wednesday following an attack at a vocational school that left seven people injured. The incident occurred at Vocational School Complex No. 4 in Ostrołęka, a town situated north of the capital, Warsaw.
Authorities apprehended the suspect, who is a student at the school, after emergency services responded to the scene. The attack reportedly took place around 11 a.m. and involved a "sharp object," according to police. Specific details about the weapon were not provided.
Among the seven individuals wounded were both students and teachers. Two victims sustained serious injuries, and five were identified as being under the age of 18. The alleged attacker also sustained injuries during his arrest and was taken to a hospital, though the severity of his wounds was not disclosed.
Law enforcement officials located and arrested the man on a riverbank less than a kilometer from the school, where he had apparently attempted to flee. A photograph released by provincial police showed an officer detaining a person with their hands bound.
The mayor of Ostrołęka stated that the situation had been brought under control and that an investigation was underway to determine the full circumstances of the event. School attacks are infrequent in Poland. In a separate incident last month, a stabbing at a Catholic convent resulted in one fatality and four injuries.
