Two polar bear brothers, Brodie and Hamish, have been reunited for the first time at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, engaging in playful wrestling and swimming. The reunion was facilitated by Brodie's temporary relocation to the Doncaster park while his enclosure at Highland Wildlife Park in Scotland undergoes reconstruction.

Hamish, who moved to Yorkshire Wildlife Park in 2020, had never met his younger brother Brodie, who was born a year later. Animal keeper Bex Brown described the reunion as heartwarming, noting the brothers' playful interactions in the water. "Although Hamish and Brodie are brothers, this is the first time they have met so it’s debatable whether they recognise their relation," Brown said. "But it’s interesting to see similarities in the brothers."

Brown also commented on their individual personalities, stating, "They were both single cubs so they both like their own way. Some days Brodie uses his cheeky appeal to hold top spot, and other days Hamish seems to shine as the big brother who is in charge."

Hamish holds the distinction of being the first polar bear cub born in the UK in 25 years. The brothers' reunion provided zoo staff with a unique display of sibling interaction, characterized by what was described as "bear hugs aplenty."

Brodie is expected to return to Highland Wildlife Park once his enclosure is completed. The park staff expressed they would miss Brodie's presence during his stay.
